Cities

It is amazing just how many different vehicles are required in order to help even smaller cities operate in a functional manner. Most of the time, city residents do not even realize that these vehicles are at work, helping build our cities, as well as keeping some of our most vital systems functioning.

One of these little-known vehicles is the vacuum truck. Built on industrial strength chassis, these trucks come in all different sizes, and the size will determine the type of tasks you'll see them performing outside of your collision repair Vancouver business or any city homes. They are incredibly versatile vehicles, and within the city context can be used for a number of different purposes. Let's take a look at a few of those uses below.

Street sweeping. Yes, those trucks that you see blowing dirt and debris off of the streets are actually vacuum trucks. In Canada, this operation of the vacuum truck is particularly important once all the winter snow has melted. The amount of gravel and sediment on the roads at this time is unbelievable. It may look as if those sweepers are just redistributing the dirt, but in fact a large amount of the waste is being taken up into the truck's tank for disposal somewhere else. That means that when you're walking through Oakville dentists' offices or the supermarket in Calgary you're not walking through all of that gunk.

Sewer maintenance. If you have a septic field in your backyard, you know that over time debris can build up and start to block it. Just imagine this problem on a city wide scale! City sewer lines need to be cleaned regularly, and vacuum trucks are really the only way to make sure the job is done correctly. If you're living on Bowmanville real estate you might have your own septic tank, but if you're in the city, like Rosedale real estate, you may not have even been aware of how this issue is dealt with. If you just live in the city or run a Toronto catering business, vacuum trucks make everything safer and more sanitary.

Catch basins. Storm systems are another vital part of a city's infrastructure, which helps keep the city clean. A lot of debris and chemical waste gets washed into the catch basins of these systems, and these basins need to be cleaned on a regular basis just as the sewer lines do. Again, vacuum trucks can clean up and dispose of all the waste that would otherwise end up in vital water supplies and no one wants that water coming out of their modern bathroom vanities.

Mapping. Most of the time, the area under a city can be as complex as the city itself. There are electrical lines, sewer systems, storm drains, and other systems which run underground. Many times these systems are not well mapped out and could pose a hazard to development. Hydro vac trucks can excavate the area without damaging systems or danger to operators so engineers can get an idea of what the grid looks like. This helps when upgrading systems and building new Toronto condos.
